Colonel (Retd): K R Sasikumar was born at Edavanakad, Kerala and after the Bsc Degree joined Indian Army as a commissioned officer. He became a helicopter pilot, instructor and an examiner during his service in the Army. He rose to the rank of Colonel and commanded Srinagar based Army Aviation Squadron. On premature retirement from the Army, he joined Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) as a flying instructor.

He has more than 5000 hours of flying experience and is the recipient  Sena Medal (Gallantry) for his services in Siachen Glacier.
